July 22 Newsletter July 2008 Hello from Sylvia in Malawi. God's faithfulness is more evident every day here in Malawi as we continue to seek Him for fresh revelation and wisdom to fulfill the work of the ministry here. Just this week I was speaking at a ladies meeting and the presence of God was so strong after ministry that no one could speak, we just sat in the presence of God and bathed in His love. People responded to the salvation message and were overcome by the Spirit as they began to cry out to God in a new prayer language. One lady had a spirit of grief and I found myself just holding her in my arms as God released her from the pain of the past. Many people are still being saved as we meet them on the mini buses and in the streets. People here are hungry for the gospel and willingly repent and pray for salvation when we preach the gospel simply so that they understand what it means to be saved. Many are being healed and delivered and all of the regular attenders at church are now saved and baptised in the Holy Spirit and most are speaking in tongues. Thank you so much for those who are praying for us and supporting us financially we appreciate you so much and pray for you all regularly. Please send us your prayer requests so that we can hold you before the Lord in prayer. Love and blessings from Sylvia and the team in Malawi April 26 KENYA SOW OR GOKenya sow or go is a ministry of the Eagles Nest Christian Centre in Yass, NSW, Australia.
My name is Sylvia Suhr, a mother to four and grandmother to six.
I am 64 years. Born in the UK and immigrated to Australia in 1968.
I was born again in 1982 in Melbourne Australia and have been on the God journey ever since then.
My mission is to preach the gospel and carry the love of God to Africa and Asia.
I started my overseas missions in 1997 when I went to the Philippines with a team from our church with Pastor David Croker.
We went to Butuan in Mindinao where we shared our testimonies and preached the gospel.
Thousands of people had the opportunity to have their lives and circumstances changed by the power of God.
Many miracles were recorded...blind eyes were opened...the lame walked and many were set free from the bondage of satan.
My next mission was to Kenya with a team from another church.
God said to me, "Many of my children in Africa are dying with no arms to hold them"
Even though I didn't have the money to go on this mission I said 'yes' to God and He showed me to sell all that I had and just go!
When I met up with the team in Sydney I asked them if it would be ok for me to stay on in Kenya after the team had left and they agreed.
On this mission we taught in the bible school, preached at crusades, shared our testimonies and saw many lives changed by the power of God.
After the team left I continued to teach in the schools and churches and saw many things that changed my life forever.
I remember seeing a child of two years who's parents had died from HIV/AIDS he looked like a 6 month old baby as I carried him out of the back of a hut where he was dying from malnutrition and dehydration.
Many people leave the children to die when the parents have died with HIV/AIDS because of the stigma attached.
I came home after 4 months but I was never to be the same again.
In 2003 I again set off on another adventure, this time back to England to visit my family and work with the aged and disabled for 9 months.
It was good to see my family again and God was able to restore relationships with members of my family.
From England I went back to Kenya.
This time to a place called Mbita, a little fishing village by the shores of Lake Victoria.
I lived amongst the people of Mbita for almost 2 years and got to know a lot of their language and customs.
My memories of Mbita are very precious as thousands of people came to know Jesus during the time I was there and took teams out to the villages to preach the gospel.
I returned home and stayed with my daughter for some time but my heart was breaking for the lost in third world countries.
I was invited to visit a pastor and work alongside him at Smokey Mountain in Manila in the Philippines and so again I packed my bags and off I went.
This was also a time of fruitfulness as many of the people there were open to the gospel message and turned to Jesus.
We were able to help distribute nutrition to many of the children and saw many lives changed there too.
In October of 2007 I again set flight to Africa.
This time it was to Malawi.
I love Malawi and the people are so humble and gentle.
The team had such a beautiful sense of unity and one-ness and we were able to visit many of the remote villages and preach the gospel and see the healing power of God in action as we layed hands on the sick.
From Malawi I flew to Kenya where I was met at the airport by some very friendly people with a lovely bunch of flowers.
Michael Wafula is a special man who has 21 children, most of these are not his own but children he has adopted.
The house he used to live in has now become a school for orphans in Kitale and he rents a house for himself, his wife and some of the younger children.
I was able to speak at a youth conference there about the love of God and His power to change lives and see people set free.
From Kitale I travelled to Homa Bay where I met with a friend from Mbita who I was to work alongside for the next few months.
Ben Ouko was the YWAM base leader when I was in Mbita and he had invited me to work alongside him in ministry.
The main highlight for us was when we visited a school called Got Kabok near to Homa Bay.
When we saw the children in this school we wept and all we could do was pray and ask God to change their situation.
The many orphans were at school each day with no breakfast, no lunch and maybe some maize porridge in the evening.
We prayed for them and saw God do a miracle as the children started to smile and even danced with some of the team.
We went back to the school with some bags of maize and armed with the gospel we were privilaged to preach the gospel to most of the families in the area where many accepted Jesus .
We also gave each family 2 tins of maize which was not much but it was a beginning.
People at my home church did some fund raising and we were able to buy food so that now Ben is able to provide a meal each day for each of the children in the school.
This is a project that needs much prayer as this area is very much affected by the HIV/AIDS situation.
During the time I was in Kenya the elections were held and most of the world knows what happened after the elections....many thousands of lives were affected by the violence and bloodshed.
People were angry because the voting was said to be rigged and the country was in a panic situation.
I managed to get home in late January. |
